Kanayo Ede
Growing up in Southeastern Nigeria, Kanayo keenly observed the colors and designs on the Dutch wax fabrics his father, a textile merchant, imported from Holland and this Kanayo says was his introduction to the magic of colors, and since then he has never left colors alone.
After obtaining a BFA degree from the University of Maiduguri in
the ancient Kanem Bornu Empire, he taught life drawing at Ijebu
Ode College of Education. A year later he left to work for Saatchi
and Saatchi Advertising as a graphic artist and senior visualizer
in Lagos, Nigeria.
A naturalized American Citizen, Kanayo remains unchanged by modern life. He allows the fields, pastures, foilage, flowers and wilderness to determine the expression of his work.
Kanayo brings to his paintings a kind of flavor and warmth that
lingers on far into distant memory and leaves an ambience worthy
of multiple recalls. History has proven that creative minds are
born with natural talents and Kanayo easily can visualize clutching a paint brush since childhood. The brilliance in his landscapes
clearly portrays a cosmic dance of colors festooned around the
the elements of composition and proportion. Often the shape of the paintings themselves come into play, working with patterns, shapes, textures and a complex layering of colors. The texture creates an effect of depth and surface interest to complete a canvas filled with vision.
Today, Kanayo Ede's work can be seen all over the world. He consults with some of the top designers and architectural firms in the country. His passion for painting has earned him praise from museum curators and galleries alike.
Kanayo provides the art collector with a superb example of how much beauty there is in a moment. He has participated in solo exhibitions, as well as group and juried shows throughout several countries. Kanayo currently exhibits regularly in New York and Chicago. His paintings and giclees are included in many private and corporate collections around the world.
