I grew up in the small village of Szabolos-Szatman. In 1958, I began my studies at the general school built on the river. I later received my degree from School for Fine and Applied Arts in Budapest. My father is a painter who, at that time, worked as a teacher of drawing and later he wrote books on the teaching of drawing. My mother was a teacher at the local school. I have 4 younger brothers and five children.
From my father I received correct foundations by which I have been helped with to this day. At the secondary school my master was Lajos Ujvary who shepherded us mildly towards taking ourselves seriously.
Following this, I worked as a restoration artist for 6 years for the Hungarian National Gallery and the National Szechenyi Library. Then I made a short detour to the world of film-making as a light effects technician in the studio. Finally, I began my academic studies of the faculty of restoration at the College of Fine Arts rather late in 1986
By this time, some of my illustrations were published in books, papers and posters. At the College, my master, Tibor Brada, encouraged me to carry on my natural style.
Mainly the works that I have become acquainted with in the course of my activity as a restorer has perhaps shaped my artistic approach. I was seized by the care that preservation restoration demanded. I experimented with photography and have revived old techniques. On these subjects I have delivered a number of lectures and led professional camps.
After this, my interest turned to old techniques of painting. I have studied the possibilities of representation. “Natural” or “naturalistic” means literally to render nature in a true way together with the effect it has made on me. My ultimate goal in creating art is to obtain the same high quality of craftsmanship that characterized the idealized realism.
My strong influences have come from great masters such as Rembrandt, Vermeer, Chardin, Huysum and many contemporary artist such as the Hungarian Tiber Csernus whose work is very close to me.
