Jean Pierre Dubord
One of the lighthouse images of the Rouen painting school, JP Dubord paints the sea and marries it with the sun. The sea always starts again.
A careful keeper of intimate nuances of light, he continually reminds us of the seashore, where the sea meets land, a painting of light silvery waves where sea gulls do their hovering dances. Paintings of the docks where the boats are ready to set sail into the big blue. These are a collection of paintings emphasizing light, in which the irises are lit with dabs of sunlight, as if he was to give the viewer a travel invitation. Dispersing a radiant touch, idyllically with subtlety, Dubord’s paintings aspire to captivate and recreate the magic moment of a tickling perpetual suspense.
The artist has us participate in the constant festivities of the sea, more than by the technique of plein air painting, a style very dear to the impressionists. Like a poet, JP Dubord says: “ I feel that the birds are in a state of intoxication being amongst the different unknown foams amongst the skies.” Intoxication, but also fascination by the fluidity of his waters, is the true infinity of a poet. Using his fluid aptitudes, taking off by instantaneously prolonging his vision, the artist has made us believe in the magic of the water and it’s spells.
If this simplifies every element of landscape, it’s to better remember the imposing mass and the fundamental tonalities. A secret alchemy permits him to marry the colors on canvas, without mixing the: tender colors, bright and gay, the colors that flourish on a wonderful summer afternoon.
Delicate and subtle variations follow using blue and white tones, the marines of JP Dubord should be in their perfection and crispness at fusion, in a balance obtained between the element of light and color. Nothing is violent or shocking. The harmonies of his tints are soft and light, participating in an impression of serenity.
